The square got its name from the jar, as the waters from the hill crowned by the castle of Volissos were collected here.

 

Pythonas Square has always been an important commercial and social center. The road that connects the square of Python with the square of Christ was the commercial center of northwestern Chios. Today, the square maintains its traditional character and offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere of an authentic Chios village.
